“BICYCLE BANDIT” ROBS THE BANK OF GRANITE AT GUNPOINT

bank robbery suspect

Charlotte, NC – The FBI Safe Streets Task force is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying and locating an armed bank robber who is being dubbed the “Bicycle Bandit” because of his means of escape following the robbery of the Bank of Granite, 3016 Weddington Road, Suite 500, Charlotte, North Carolina.

On September 21, 2007, at approximately 10:48 a.m., a lone male, who drew a small-caliber semi-automatic pistol from a fanny pack as he entered the bank, approached and demanded money from one of the bank tellers. After obtaining an undisclosed amount of money, the suspect exited the bank and fled on a bicycle, although it is suspected that the bandit may have placed the bicycle in the back of a nearby vehicle and then fled the area in a motor vehicle. There were no injuries as a result of the robbery.

The suspect was described as a white male, approximately six feet in height, weighing approximately 240 pounds, about twenty-five to thirty-five years of age, and having dark hair. At the time of the robbery, the suspect was wearing a green camouflaged baseball cap, a Halloween-style mask with oversized and protruding teeth, a green tee shirt, blue-jean shorts, a red or orange colored fanny pack, and blue tennis shoes. The suspect also appeared to be right-handed.

Investigators from the FBI Safe Streets Task Force and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to the robbery and are still investigating.

The FBI Safe Streets Task Force is releasing the attached images from the bank’s surveillance system to help further identify the suspect. Anyone with information regarding this case is requested to contact the FBI at (704) 377-9200.
